This week’s edition starts with what might be the most accurate machinist cologne ever created — Stagnant Coolant. Notes of rot, rancidity, and a coolant sump that definitely hasn’t been cleaned in a while.

From there we move to another universal shop frustration: barstock stickers that refuse to come off. Nothing quite like trying to machine a piece of material while a label stronger than Loctite is welded to the side.

And of course, we finish things off with a few machining memes — including one that perfectly captures the moment when you're inspecting your own parts.

Let’s get into it.

Top Comments Include:

  • “They need one for dark sulfur cutting oil also”

  • “Awesome! Remember before synthetic coolant they made the stuff with animal fat in it.. the layer of "stinky cheese" in the coolant tray on Monday morning..🤮"

  • “I would go to have a few beers after working all day on a lathe.i got that “what’s that oil smell” from a girl who didn’t know me. I looked at her and said “that’s called Oil Of Old Lathe”…😂😂 do you like it?”..

Got a bunch of laughs on that!!!”

Does this ruin your day?

Top Comments Include:

  • “Wrap a rag around the sticker and saturate it with kerosene. In about 10 minutes the sticker will slide right off”

  • “yet same guy will get upset when he can't identify the material when he needs to know. Also our tooling can cut paper as well as aluminum.”

  • “Wait you don’t just machine right through it?”

  • “Tag your part number one the end then 3M adhesive remover spray, that's how I deal with it and I get on with my day”

  • “They use special glue. It's stronger than a weld.”
